We recently traveled down to New Orleans for a weekend getaway sans kiddos. First time in 6 1/2 years that we’ve gone away overnight! Crazy, right?! We didn’t even realize it had been that long until we got in the car and figured it out. We got to see some great things, which I will share in the coming days. One of the stops was the Audubon Aquarium. Yes, yes, we went to the aquarium on our weekend away without kids. I just love them and being that it was about to rain we opted for the fish!
It was a nice aquarium, however, it was very crowded. The weekends are never an ideal time to visit these places in my opinion. It’s a pain to feel rushed through because of the crowd of people behind you or stuck due to the crowd in front of you. Still, if the weekend is all you have, you can’t dwell on the crowds.
I was not too crazy about the layout of the aquarium, it didn’t seem to flow quite as nicely as some that I’ve been to. My favorite to date is the Atlanta aquarium. If you’re ever in Georgia, you should check it out, but be ready to schedule your visit based on the time slot you receive. Thankfully, that wasn’t an issue at the NOLA aquarium, but perhaps it would help with the crowds a bit more.
My favorites are always the sharks and the jellyfish. The sharks because I have a strange obsession with them, like alligators. The jellyfish because they are fun to photograph!
In my opinion, this aquarium was nice since we were there, but I probably wouldn’t make a trip there to take the kids. One that is worthwhile to visit if you’re coming from the Leesville area and is closer would be Moody Gardens in Galveston; I could go again and again. Plus, you get a fun free trip on the ferry, as well!
Wherever you choose to visit, enjoy your experience being close to all those amazing creatures! They are truly beautiful.
Happy Thursday!
